Fair Foods has provided healthy produce to low income families in Greater Boston. Our unique affordable food bag program, available for just a few dollars, goes beyond emergency hunger relief, strengthening your dollar to make a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables affordable.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many community resources were disrupted, Nancy Jamison and Rita Lara worked together with the City of Boston Office of Food Justice and Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement to help address the food and nutrition security needs of more than 10,000 families. Their partnership demonstrated the power of trusted community leadership, collaboration, and a strong last-mile food distribution network during a time of extraordinary need.
After nearly four decades of dedicated leadership, Fair Foods founder Nancy Jamison is working with Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) to transition the Fair Foods food distribution network to MLCS. Together, they are ensuring that Fair Foods’ legacy of rescuing good food and nourishing communities continues while strengthening its network of last-mile distribution sites and reaching thousands of families each year across Greater Boston.

Our History
Fair Foods began in 1988 when Dorchester resident Nancy Jamison saw a truck full of carrots driving to the dump. She told some neighbors that perfectly good surplus food was being thrown away, so they rounded up some trucks and started picking it up. There was enough free food for everyone to share with families, friends, and neighbors, and Fair Foods was born.
Our Present
Fair Foods is entering a powerful new chapter. Maverick Landing Community Services (MLCS) is building on Fair Foods’ 38-year legacy of rescuing good food and nourishing communities—preserving what has worked while strengthening the network for the future.
MLCS is strengthening Fair Foods’ last-mile distribution network, helping fresh, affordable produce reach thousands of families across Greater Boston while advancing food and nutrition security.
Preserving a legacy. Strengthening the last mile. Nourishing thousands of families.
