“We will probably make 1000 referrals to your program this year. Without programs like yours, we would often have no resources whatever to refer clients.” – Karen Plattes, FoodSource Hotline Manager, Project Bread
Our “Two Dollars-a-Bag" Donation Program operates through a network of some 200 volunteers weekly in almost 40 “Two Dollars-a-Bag” food distribution sites, situated in churches, schools, and senior housing complexes. For a donation of two dollars (though food is given regardless), a family receives about 15 pounds of groceries. The “dignity of a dollar” approach is unique among hunger relief programs in that food recipients are not ashamed but empowered, paying for their goods like everyone else.
Fair Foods is not an emergency feeding program, but rather provides weekly groceries. A small portion of a family food budget spent at Fair Foods provides healthier food and in larger quantities than is available at stores and markets. For this reason we locate Two-Dollars-a-Bag sites in areas of economic stress.

“My weekly visits to Fair Foods result in beautiful, healthy salads, fresh fruit, vegetables, pastry, rolls and sometimes soda, making the meals we serve nutritious, interesting and attractive. We could not continue this [student lunch] program without your continued help and generosity. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” – June Macdonald, administrative coordinator, PREP Community Computer Center at Bruce Wall Ministries (Nov 14, 2001)
